Happy Birthday Dear AAA Officers!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This month has been super busy for AAA =]. On Oct. 7th our Big Sib/Lil Sib Chairs planned a competitive yet fun-filled Family Olympiad where families competed for the title of "Number 1 Family" and bragging rights, and Family Cocoa Puffs came out victorious! Congrats!
Then the week after that our Social Chairs hosted AAA Semi-Formal! It was a chance to dress up and dance and mingle and just have fun! The theme was "Cinderella"; girls would leave one of their shoes to one side of the room and guys would all come in to pick a shoe and match it to the right girl. They would then pair up and mingle for the hour or till the end of the event!
That weekend after Semi-Formal, AAA competed in a Capture the Flag tournament with other APA organizations on campus. Both of our black and white teams did an awesome job, but unfortunately we did not emerge champions. Congrats to PSA on their victory!

Apprize November: Gobble Gobble! Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey there reader! Jen here. It's November, and you know what that means. Yep, we have one week off for Thanksgiving Break to spend time with family, catch up with old friends, do a little insane Black Friday shopping, and of course stuff our belly with tons of delicious home-cooking! There's a food-coma waiting for you ;).
For all you freshmen out there, take my advice and don't waste this valuable week. While it's important to take a little time for yourself to re-energize so you can take on those final exams when you come back, be productive and you'll be less stressed when you come back from the break. Now I'm not telling you to not have fun, I'm merely suggesting you should do a bit of that homework, work a little on that project, or whatnot. And when you come back from break, while your friends are rushing to meet deadlines, you'll still be relaxing and taking it easy.
You may be wondering what my plans for Thanksgiving Break are...I currently don't have any besides homework, website and newsletter related business, and maybe some Black Friday shopping ;) I'll let you know when I do something funtastic, and if you are doing something awesome for break, email me and let us know at lin163@illinois.edu.

And now a word from our External Vice President...
Dear AAA, my name is Victor and I’m the current External Vice President for AAA. I’m a Junior in Computer Engineering, minoring in Business. I hope you’ve enjoyed the semester so far, I know I have. It’s been awesome meeting all of the new freshmen and seeing old familiar faces. Sadly all things come to an end, but let’s not forget the wonderful times that we’ve been able to spend with each other. Since we’re celebrating Thanksgiving this month, I thought that I would write something along that topic.
Never ending plates of food, standing outside department stores at 3am in the morning, or even lying in the couch at home doing nothing, this is pretty much a thanksgiving for a college student (why can’t it be like that all year long lol). However, sometimes it’s nice to use this one week off from school for something even better. As college students, we’re preparing to step foot into a new world, getting ready to have a family of our own and a new life. Only during these holidays, do we have time to spend with our family, talk to our parents, and hang out with our siblings. It’s also a time for us to look back at the year that has passed and realize how fortunate we’ve been to have met all these people that we now call “friends”. College might only last for 4 years, but the friendships you make will last for eternity. Value and nurture them and the rewards you get will be priceless.
As the holiday approaches, I would like to give a small challenge to all of you. During this one week that you’ll be home, spend some time and think back to all the happy moments you’ve had in college. Then pick up your phone and call everyone involved. You don’t have to say something cheesy like “I’m so happy you’re in my life”, just talk. Talk about anything you want. After that phone call ends, you can tell yourself that these are the people I value and I’ll never give them up.
“It’s thanksgiving so let’s be thankful for all that we have.”
AAA External Vice President
Victor

A Letter from Andrew
Hey AAA,
I hope all of you had a phenomenal break. I definitely missed seeing your smiley faces. I just wanted to write about my break primarily because AAA was a huge part of it. I went to NY, NJ, PA, CT, MA, NC and TN. I had the opportunity to meet up with several individuals whom I first encountered here at AAA during my time on the East Coast. These relationships blossomed during our time here as we attended events, hung out "pretending" to do homework and just growing as individuals. These relationships have endured as they migrated from Champaign. I just want to encourage you to look around at your peers here at AAA, one day as you go your separate ways, your paths will cross and you will be able to reminisce at those good ol' days. As a graduating senior, its bitter sweet seeing each one of you go through growing pains and blossom into the man / woman you're meant to be. I will miss you AAA.
Andy

Let's do a recap of events we had this month. We started off with another Cheapskates event and we had a breakfast for dinner event where we ate cereals that our families are named after. We played Ultimate Frisbee on the South Quad and we had a Super Smash Tournament Fundraiser (which I lost pitifully), and of course Fashion Show Fall Runthroughs at Greg Hall. And tonight is the long-awaited Family Potluck! Stop by AACC with your family and join us for a feast! Don't forget to bring canned foods to donate as well! In addition, at the event, for $2 you can pie an officer (including me). Come on, it's for a good cause! All proceeds will go to Relay for Life!

Apprize December: Ho Ho Ho! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
It's December and I know many of you, like me, are looking forward to the end of finals and the beginning of our month long winter vacation. And just what kind of exciting plans do you have planned for winter break? Traveling? Skiing or snowboarding? Spending the holidays with family and friends? As for me, I'll be experiencing food comas at family holiday parties and lazying around watching my Asian dramas ;). Well, whatever your plans might be, I wish you a safe and fun-filled break!
Happy Winter!
-Jen

Now for a recap for our Dec events...Social committee held a gingerbread house making event where we got to make and eat houses made with graham crackers, jet-puffed marshmallow creme, and assorted candies and chocolate for decor. Although my house tumbled, it's a good thing cause I got to eat my mess! What a sugar-rush :D. Apart from this event, we had other successful ones such as study nights, midnight breakfast, and other chill get-togethers. So be on the look-out for our events next semester!
Our biggest event of the year, Fashion Show, is officially set for Saturday, March 3rd, 2012 with the theme "Unbreakable". Entries for the Fashion Show T-Shirt Contest are still being accepted until Jan. 15th. Questions or submissions, email fs.headcoord@gmail.com.
In addition, all organizations that are interested in PERFORMING or EMCEEING for the show should send an email to the fashion show head coordinator at fs.headcoord@gmail.com as well.

Time for Birthday Shout-Outs!

Happy Birthday to our AAA Officers!

Apprize January: Happy New Year!
The year is 2012, is the world coming to an end? Hopefully not, because after celebrating our 25th Anniversary, we are halfway to our 50th, yay! Our committees still have so much more to offer this semester and we hope you can join us in our events.
Following tradition, with the new year comes New Year's Resolution. Here are some resolutions from a few of our officers:
"My New Year's resolution is to not lose my new phone again. My mom would really kill me this time >.<"
-Anna Lin
"I'm going to start swearing less...haha. :P"
-Veena Vijayakumar
"My New Year's resolution is to answer people back more quickly, whether it be by text, email, facebook, etc.--I need to be a quicker in my responses haha"
-Jeanna Wong
1. Workout at least once a week
2. Appreciate every single moment
3. Don't be afraid to try new things
4. Stay active - both physically/mentally
-Jae Eun Kim
"Read the newspaper every day and be more up to date on current issues!"
-Suran
"Spend less time wondering "what if" and take risks"
-Kim Mok
"My resolutions are to get a 4.0 in my last semester at U of I and to find some sort of job"
-William Thai
And finally my resolution is to try to go work out more often this semester. I hope our resolutions have inspired you to ponder yours. But while having one is a great start, it is more important to actually go through with them. Some tips on how to make one that you are more likely to follow is to start off easy. Make one that is accomplishable but that still needs a bit of effort. Another tip is to be as specific as possible. Instead of using general words like 'more' or 'less', decide on how much from the start. Use words that have a specific quantity, for example, "eat one apple a day" is very specific. Hope this helps, and good luck!
On a similar note, Happy Lunar New Year to those of you that celebrate it. It is the year of the Dragon! For those of you born under the Dragon zodiac, it is your lucky year. If you believe in superstitions and good luck, wear the color red for 15 days starting from the day of the Lunar New Year and you will be blessed with good fortune for the rest of the year!
Birthday Shout-out to Brenda, our publicity chair! Happy Birthday on Jan. 16th!
And finally, I wish you all a successful semester of classes!
-Jen
